In Honor of Brigid Kelly

"Brigid Kelly dedicated her life to service, fighting for workers and families in Southwest Ohio. She left a lasting legacy not only through her accomplishments, but also through her mentorship of young Ohioans in our community. We can build on that work and honor her memory by fostering a new generation of leaders committed to public service."

- U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (OH-2007 to 2025)

Brigid Kelly (Business and Entrepreneurship, ’05) led a life of public service, as a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives and Norwood City Council, and as Hamilton County Auditor. She championed causes like affordable healthcare, paid sick and family leave, women’s rights, and workers’ safety and equity. As a proud United Food and Commercial Workers Local 75 Member, Brigid also fought tirelessly for workers' rights, healthcare access, better wages, safer working conditions and a secure retirement.

Brigid passed away on March 26, 2024 after a two-year battle with cancer. It is a testament to the respect that she enjoyed throughout the state that politicians from both sides of the aisle and Governor Mike DeWine paid tribute to her by ordering flags to be lowered to honor her life and legacy.

She was a mentor to countless Xavier students as they pursued opportunities to develop into leaders in their communities. Brigid mentored Xavier students who served on her campaigns, worked with her professionally, and benefited from her generosity and friendship. She provided particular support to students in the Philosophy, Politics, and the Public Honors program, both during their time at Xavier and in the professional lives.

Please Save the Date: Brigid Kelly Scholarship Reception, Thursday April 24, 2025 8:30am-9:30am @ Cintas Center.
