Xavier legend Al Bischoff, S.J., is retiring from his duties at the University.
Affectionally known as "Father B," Bischoff is moving away from the Xavier campus — where he has resided since 1998 — to join a community of fellow retired Jesuit priests and brothers in Michigan.
A Xavier alum himself, Bischoff's common greeting of "Hello, Saint!" has endeared him to the Musketeer community. The habit dates back to his days as a high-school teacher and developed because he couldn’t remember his students’ names. It evolved into a regular practice, he said, because “We are all God’s holy people.” He truly believes each person he meets is a saint.
As he enters retirement, Xavier recognizes Bischoff for his many years serving the University in multiple roles: as Emeritus Campus Minister for the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice, as a longtime resident minister in Husman Hall, as minister of Bellarmine Chapel, where he presided over the 4:00 p.m. daily Mass, and as a longtime member of the Jesuit community.
In honor of Father B’s legacy at Xavier, please consider giving toward The Albert J. Bischoff, S.J., Scholarship.
